Vaccinations 

Vaccinations are recommended as an essential part of your dog’s healthcare program and can protect them from serious and potentially fatal diseases. Prevention is the best medicine, as these diseases are mainly viral and don't respond well to medications, and treatment is expensive and sometimes unsuccessful.

A Healthy Pets Plus Dog Membership includes important vaccinations such as C3, C5 & C7 for puppies and C5 & C7 for adult/senior dogs.

These vaccinations protect dogs against dangerous diseases including:

• Parvovirus - a viral gastroenteritis, which is highly contagious spreading through the infected faecal material of dogs.
• Distemper - a highly contagious disease, which can cause conjunctivitis, nasal discharge, convulsions (seizures) and spinal cord damage.
• Canine Kennel Cough - a complex disease caused by bacterium and viral components spread through casual contact with other dogs.
• Hepatitis - in puppies this disease can cause sudden death, whilst as adults dogs can experience weakness, fever, diarrhoea & loss of appetite.

Your pet's vaccination program will be advised by your local Greencross veterinarian. Healthy Pets Plus excludes export vaccinations.

Microchipping

Microchipping your dog can help avoid the heartache of losing your best friend. Without identification, it can be nearly impossible to reunite a pet with their rightful owner.

Microchipping is a quick, safe and simple procedure that is included in your Healthy Pets Plus Membership (if required).

How does a microchip work?

• A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is injected under your pet’s skin, this can be done during a normal consultation.
• The microchip is embedded with a code unique to your pet and it really is the most effective form of permanent identification.
• The chip contains an identification number and relays this information back to a microchip scanner and this unique code is linked to a national registry.
• If a pet is ever lost and is handed in at a veterinary clinic or animal shelter a microchip scanner is passed over the animal to reveal the unique code.
• The vet clinic or animal shelter can then refer to the database to identify the name, address and phone number of the owner, so they can be reunited.
